TRM® began as a solo effort, and largely to date still is, on the part of myself, Brennan Neil MacDonald, to fix an outlet for all of my creative energies and potentially turn a small profit at the same time.
Originally it was a backboard for my work in comic books and other literary pursuits, propping up the back end of "Self" Publishing, the independent publishing label that produced Stick City, and "News Without Order", a similar brand that was used to publish Baphomet's Requiem, a novel that was originally released as a weekly by-chapter publication as part of my entertainment news blog 'A Comic Book Blog Dot Net'. The blog ran for several years and acted as a decent networking tool allowing me a door opener when it came to building connections with industry professionals whom I might wish to solicit for some advice or possibly pitch work to at some time in the future.
Alongside my brick and mortar work in the literary world, namely the conception and distribution of sequential Art paired with literary prose, I also operated the Comic Book Blog focusing primarily on the comic book industry and its various manifestations as the industry ballooned slowly from a bygone hobby to a entertainment media juggernaut claiming responsibility for over one third of the worlds top grossing films each year (statistics vary) as well as nearly half of all popular television programs (including animation) not based on the lives of cops, lawyers or doctors. If you understand a little about the industry you might already know that those three occupations are considered the Holy Trinity of prime time dramatic exhibition. But this isn't meant to be a lesson, so I will reign it in before I veer too far from our central point. Which was, presently, detailing my time working on the Comic Book Blog, which brought me into a wonderful new world of conventions, feature film adaptations, teaser trailers, press releases, celebrity interviews, variant covers, alternate endings, limited editions, celebrity panels, video games, and action figure lines based on everything from Garbage Pail Kids to California Raisins, and the odd comic book of course.
After several years of investing 23 of my 24 daily hours into the site I finally had to let it go so that I might have time to venture other, more passion filled, projects. So I took some time to ghost write some song lyrics and a pen bit of stand-up fin order to earn a bit of much needed money and then it was a short trip to The Rare Mediums, where we find ourselves today.
The very first thing that TRM did was acquired the rights to Renegade Battle Action Girls and so I poured myself into social media in order to spread the good word and to get a feel for the actual measure of notoriety and cult classic reputation this affair had. You see its origin story, if you will, is almost as captivating and entertaining as the content itself. Laying claim to a rich and sordid history filled with fake online storefronts, secret one-and-done URLs, and an underground fan base built exclusively on word of mouth. There are some aspects of the projects past that seem to verge on the illegal if not illicit. Though these are components of the work which I decided early on to not bring into the light of the future or the assets adaptation from underground web-series to feature film production. All said, you can scope a galley of some modern adaptations of our Angels brought to you in animated form and if you really hunt for it you may be able to locate some still frames or promo-posters from the original run, though most of it was considered far too "adult" for the majority of our current platforms.
Soon thereafter putting RBAG to development I had the idea for 'Cool Little Kids', a soon to be ongoing, original, black and white indie comic book from myself and artist LuX noIR (quite possibly not a given name). The story follows the adventures of an ever evolving gang of homeless youth living in the notorious Villa Miseria on the outskirts of Buenos Aries, Argentina. The children form a gang in order to fill the gap left by the absence of their natural families and the stability of a home life. El Gatos Muertas, (The Dead Cats) spend their days and nights slipping into fantastic, supernatural worlds built on their imaginations and slip out of the harsh reality of life spent surrounded by poverty, suffering, violence and depression as well as a long list of other obstacles and dangers they are forced to contend with each day. Their primary goal to escape the uninviting reality life has afforded them and find a way to a better life someplace beyond the borders of their small slum. And did I mention that the kids all dress up in costumes meant to make them appear as much like cats, and yes dead cats, as possible? Consider it their gang colors, but instead of red or blue they wear whiskers and fur. And lastly I almost forgot the ever encroaching zombie problem that has slowly become a topic of some genuine concern for the children, being less equipped to deal with the problem of a zombie hoard than say your average person. But I expect all of that to work itself out as the series progresses.
So between those two projects, the constant upkeep of social networks and meta-media platforms and letting myself out for graphic arts and digital media development projects for small businesses and individuals alike my plate is completely full. And I love it. Now if only I could find a way to turn some kind of a profit out of it.
That in mind, I have recently discovered the joys of NFT minting, and have been developing relationships with Rarible and Open Sea where I currently have several galleries of NFTs as well as a number of live auctions running. I've only just decided to finally lend my imagination and skills to this strangely rewarding little market but accounting for the near constant requests for minted NFT versions of my work which have been hitting my inbox almost daily for the past year I can only presume that these should be quite popular once word spreads of their availability.
